Where to go in Egypt in February in 2027 becomes simple once you know the weather in each region. This guide follows one 12-day route and explains where to go in Egypt in February by interest and budget.
Where to Go in Egypt in February? and 12 Days Across the Best Weather in the Country!
A Retired Teacher a Calendar and One Question
Tom Calder phoned our office in October with one question. He had twelve free days in February and he wanted to know where to go in Egypt in February. He had no hotel in mind and no fixed budget. He only had a calendar and a dislike of crowds.
Tom is a composite of the winter travelers we advise every year. The route below is one we have planned many times with small changes.
The honest answer begins with one fact. Egypt in February behaves like two countries. The north is cool and sometimes wet. The south is warm and very dry. The best places to visit in Egypt in February are the ones where the weather matches the activity. Temples need mild dry days. Reefs need calm water. Deserts need clear nights. February delivers the first and the third and a fair version of the second.
Bastet Travel builds these routes for guests from many countries. What follows is the logic we gave Tom.

Where to Go in Egypt in February at a Glance
Follow the warmth south. Start in the cool north for the great monuments. Move to the Nile valley for temples. Finish on the Red Sea if you want sea air and easy sunshine.
- Cairo and Giza for the pyramids and two major museums
- Luxor for temples and tombs at their most comfortable
- Aswan and Abu Simbel for Nubian scenery and a famous sunrise event
- Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh for reefs and mild beach days
- Marsa Alam for quiet diving

These are long-term averages. Check a forecast a week before you fly. For the full national picture read our guides to Egypt in February and the temp in Egypt in February.

Days 1 to 3 | Cairo and Giza in Cool Light
Tom landed in Cairo on a Tuesday morning at 19°C. That is a perfect temperature for a city of stone and dust. In July the same streets would feel like an oven. This is the first reason Cairo ranks among the best places to visit in Egypt in February. Long walking days are possible and nobody needs a midday retreat.
The Pyramids Before the Tour Buses
We sent Tom to the Pyramids of Giza at opening time. Morning light is soft and the sand is cold underfoot. He walked the Giza Necropolis and then stood in front of the Sphinx before the groups arrived. The evening Pyramids Sound and Light Show is worth booking but bring a jacket. Night temperatures fall fast on the plateau.
A second day can reach the older sites south of the city. Sakkara holds the Step Pyramid of Djoser. Dahshur Pyramids gives you the Bent Pyramid with almost no queue. Memphis City is a short stop that fills in the story. Our Cairo Tours and Excursions page lists ready-made combinations.
Two Museums and One Old Quarter
February can bring a rainy afternoon in Cairo. Keep a museum on standby. The The Grand Egyptian Museum - GEM needs half a day. The older The Egyptian Museum in Cairo is smaller and more nostalgic. The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) shows the royal mummies in a calm modern hall.
Then go outside again. Coptic Cairo and the Hanging Church cover the early Christian layer. Al-Muizz Street leads to the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar where Tom bought a brass lamp and lost an hour arguing happily over the price. For weather details before packing see Cairo Egypt weather in February.

Days 4 and 5 | Luxor When the Temples Are Comfortable
Ask any guide where to go in Egypt in February and Luxor comes first. Summer here is brutal. February is the opposite. Days reach 25°C and the stone buildings hold a pleasant warmth. Nights drop to single digits so a fleece matters.
Tom took the east bank first. Karnak Temple takes a full morning and luxor temple is best at dusk when it is lit. The Luxor East Bank has enough restaurants for a long dinner.
The west bank came the next day. He entered the Valley of The Kings when the gates opened and saw the Tomb of Tutankhamun with a short line. Hatshepsut Temple came next followed by the Colossi of Memnon on the way back. If you have extra time add the Valley of The Queens and the QV66 Tomb of Nefertari. The whole area is covered in Luxor West Bank.
A Hot Air Balloon at dawn is the best view in the city. February mornings are cold at takeoff so wear layers you can remove. Browse every option under Luxor Tours and Excursions. Our guides to Luxor in February and weather in Luxor Egypt in February go deeper.

Days 6 to 9 | Nile Cruise to Aswan
Most travelers who ask us about the best places to visit in Egypt in February end up on the river. Water is calm and the air is dry. Decks are comfortable all day and you only need a blanket after sunset.
Tom chose a 5 Day Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan. Shorter options exist such as a 4 night nile cruise luxor to aswan. If you prefer a smaller boat look at a small boat nile cruise or a luxury dahabiya nile cruise. The full range sits under Nile Cruise. Book early. February is high season and the best cabins go first.
Edfu and Kom Ombo
Edfu Temple is among the best preserved temples in Egypt. Tom reached it by horse carriage and the cool air made the ride pleasant. Kom Ombo Temple sits on a bend of the river and looks best as the sun lowers. Cruise programs usually place it near sunset.
Aswan and Philae
Aswan is the warmest stop of the trip. Philae Temple sits on an island reached by a short boat ride. Nearby you can see the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk. A Felucca Ride around Elephantine Island is the easy highlight. Tom also visited a Nubian Village for tea and henna. More ideas sit under Aswan Tours.

Day 10 | Abu Simbel and the Sun Festival
Abu Simbel is a long day trip from Aswan. Tom left at 3:30 am in a convoy and reached the site before the heat. In February there is no heat to avoid but the early start still gives you the temple with fewer people.
Both temples are worth the time. See Abu Simbel Temple first and then Nefertari’s Temple at Abu Simbel.
Here is a reason that makes this one of the best places to visit in Egypt in February. The Abu Simbel Sun Festival takes place on 22 February when sunlight reaches the inner sanctuary. Crowds are large and hotels in Aswan fill early. If you want to be there plan months ahead. Another way to reach the site is a nile cruise with abu simbel which includes the transfer in the program.
Days 11 and 12 | Red Sea Rest
After nine days of temples Tom wanted water and a quiet chair. This is the point where where to go in Egypt in February turns into a coast decision. Both main resorts share a dry climate and a cool sea. They differ in character.
Hurghada
Hurghada is long and easy with a wide choice of hotels. Day boats reach Giftun Island Hurghada and Orange Bay Hurghada. Tom booked a Glass Boat trip because the sea felt too cool for a long swim. Pick wisely. The north wind is steady and the water sits near 21°C. Our guides on Hurghada in February and February weather in Hurghada explain what to expect hour by hour. More activities are under Hurghada Tours and Excursions.
Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam
Sharm El Sheikh suits divers and people who like a compact resort scene. Ras Mohammed and Tiran Island offer first-class reef sites. Naama Bay is the evening hub. See Sharm El Sheikh Tours and the guides on Sharm El Sheikh in February and Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh in February.
Marsa Alam is the quiet choice. Abu Dabbab is known for turtles and the reef is close to shore. Water is cool so a thicker wetsuit helps. Details are in marsa alam weather in february and the page for Marsa Alam Trips.
If you want river and sea in a single booking try a nile cruise and red sea holiday or a nile cruise and hurghada stay. Our egypt two centre holidays cover similar plans.

Places That Disappoint in February

Alexandria is the wettest and coolest city on the list. A clear day can be lovely at the Citadel of Qaitbay but rain and wind are common. If Alexandria is a must see our Alexandria Tours can fit it around the weather.
Mountain Sinai is cold. A sunrise climb of Jabal Mousa can feel freezing before dawn and the St. Catherine’s Monastery area can see frost.
The Western Desert has perfect days but nights near freezing. The White Desert and Siwa Oasis suit hardy travelers with good sleeping bags.
Water parks like Makadi Water World are better in summer.

Ramadan Crowds and Booking in February
February brings two planning points. First it is a high season month on the Nile. Cruises and good hotels sell out so book three to four months ahead. Second Ramadan in 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February. Dates depend on the moon so confirm closer to travel.
During Ramadan the major sites stay open. Some restaurants close during daylight and opening hours can shift. Evenings are lively and the atmosphere in Cairo is special. If you want an easier pace choose a Nile cruise since meals run normally on board.
