Cairo Egypt weather in February 2027 is mild by day and cool at night with rare rain and soft light. This photographer’s shot list reads Cairo Egypt weather in February hour by hour so you know when to be where.
Cairo Egypt Weather in February 2027 and A Photographer’s Shot List by Light and Temperature
Selim carries two cameras and a list of six shots. Every shot on the list has a condition attached. Haze for the Pyramids. Low sun for the Nile. A wet street for the Citadel. He wrote the conditions before he wrote the places because he knows the weather decides whether a shot happens.
Selim is a composite built from how photographers plan a city and not a real client. His list is a good way to read Cairo weather in February 2027 because each shot needs a different hour and a different temperature. This guide follows the list. For the planning questions around the month see our guides to is february a good time to visit egypt and travel to egypt in february. Cairo Egypt Weather in February at a Glance
| Measure | Typical February value |
| Daytime high | about 20°C |
| Night low | about 10°C |
| Sunshine | about 8 to 9 hours a day |
| Rain | a few millimetres on one or two days |
| Humidity | moderate |
| Wind | light to moderate and often from the north |
| Sunrise | about 6:50 a.m. early in the month and 6:30 a.m. late |
| Sunset | about 5:35 p.m. early in the month and 5:55 p.m. late |
These are averages and not forecasts. Individual days can run a few degrees either way so check a live forecast before you fly. The number that shapes Selim’s list is not the high. It is the light. The sun is low and soft in the morning and evening and the air is clear on most days. That combination is why photographers like Cairo in February.

Shot 1: The Pyramids in Low Sun
Selim writes the condition next to the first shot: cold hands and a soft haze.
At 6:30 a.m. his thermometer reads about 9°C. The air is still and a thin haze sits over the city behind the plateau. By eight o’clock it is closer to 12°C and the sun has cleared the horizon. That early haze is not a flaw. It softens the distant skyline and gives the three pyramids a layered look that hard midday light never gives.
The plateau is open ground with no shade and a steady breeze. A windproof layer matters more than a thick sweater and gloves help more than most visitors expect during the first hour. Plan to be on site in the first hours after opening when the sun is still low and the tour buses have not arrived. Opening hours vary so ask your guide for the exact time on your date.
The classic frames are the Pyramids of Giza from the main viewing area and the Sphinx with a pyramid behind it. The wider Giza Necropolis offers quieter angles. A Camel Ride or a Horse Ride on the edge of the plateau gives a moving subject against the stone. Wear closed shoes because sand and uneven ground are the norm.
Shot condition: cool still air and low sun and a thin morning haze.

Shot 2: The Citadel After a Rare Rain
The second shot depends on luck. Selim writes it down anyway.
Cairo gets very little rain in February. Averages show only a few millimetres and those usually fall on one or two days as a short shower. But a wet day does something useful. It washes the dust out of the air. The next morning is often the clearest of the month with sharp edges and a skyline that reaches the horizon.
The best place to catch it is a hilltop. The The Citadel of Saladin stands above the old city and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali (The Alabaster Mosque) sits inside it with a courtyard that frames the city below. On a clear morning after rain the view stretches to the Pyramids on the far horizon. Nearby the Mosque of Ibn Tulun offers a very different shot with its wide open court and plain arches.
A few practical points apply after rain:
- Stone floors can be slippery so wear shoes with grip.
- Mosques ask you to remove shoes so carry a small bag.
- Dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered and bring a scarf if you need one.
- A light waterproof layer is enough because heavy rain is rare.
Shot condition: a clear morning after a short rain and a hilltop with a view.

Shot 3: Lanterns in the Old City at Dusk
The third shot is the one Selim most wants. The condition is a cool evening and a narrow street full of light.
After sunset the temperature slides toward 12 or 13°C and the lanes of Islamic Cairo come alive. Al-Muizz Street is lined with old facades and the glow of shop windows and the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar fills with brass and glass and lamps. The narrow streets block much of the wind and feel warmer than the open plateau. A light jacket is enough.
In some years Ramadan begins in February and the old city fills with lanterns and decorations in the days before it starts. That is a rare chance for a photographer. The details are in the weekly section below. In any year the evening lanes reward a slow pace and a steady hand.
A few habits make the evening better:
- Ask before you photograph people and accept a no with a smile.
- Keep a scarf in your bag because the temperature falls fast once the sun is down.
- Carry small notes for tea and snacks because vendors prefer them.
- Stay with your group in the busiest lanes.
The nearby Al-Azhar Mosque adds another view of the old city. For guided evenings and routes look at Cairo Tours and Excursions.
Shot condition: a cool dry evening and narrow lanes that hold the light.

Shot 4: The Nile at Golden Hour
Shot four is the river. Selim times it for the last hour before sunset which falls around 5:35 p.m. early in the month and 5:55 p.m. at the end.
The sun is low and warm and the sky over the Nile turns from white to gold. The air is about 17 or 18°C at four o’clock and falls fast after that. A Felucca Ride gives a moving platform and a clean horizon. The sails make a good foreground and the city lights come on one by one as the sky darkens. Bring a sweater because the breeze over open water is cold.
For a higher view climb the Cairo Tower in the last hour of light. The city spreads out below and the Pyramids can sometimes be seen on the horizon when the air is clear. The viewing level is exposed so wear a windproof layer.
Shot condition: low sun and a clean horizon and a warm layer for the first hour of dusk.

Shot 5: Al-Azhar Park Under a Clear Sky
Shot five is the calm one. The condition is blue sky and a mild afternoon.
By two o’clock the thermometer reads about 20°C and the sun is high. Al-Azhar Park sits on a hill above the old city and gives a wide view over minarets and domes and rooftops. In February the lawns are green and the air is clear and the light is soft enough for long exposures without harsh shadows.
This is also the best time of day for a slow lunch with a view. It is the warmest and most comfortable part of the day for sitting outdoors in a light layer. Families will find space to rest between sights. For family formats see egypt family holidays.
Shot condition: a mild afternoon and a clear sky and a hill with a view.

Shot 6: Interiors for the Cold and Wet Hours
The last shot is the insurance policy. Selim lists it for the hours when the weather will not cooperate.
February in Cairo has cool mornings and cold evenings and the odd wet day. Indoor places fill those gaps and photograph well. The Coptic Cairo district has narrow lanes and old churches with carved wood and quiet light. The Hanging Church and Abu Serga Church and the Coptic Museum sit within a short walk of each other.
The larger museums are the best shelter from wind or rain:
- The The Grand Egyptian Museum - GEM is large enough to fill half a day.
- The The Egyptian Museum in Cairo works well as a late afternoon stop.
- The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) suits a slower day.
- The Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo has a quiet collection with good light.
Photography rules vary by museum and by ticket so check what is allowed before you enter.
Shot condition: any hour when the weather outside says no.

Cairo February Weather Week by Week
The month has a shape. The shape matters more for crowds and for Ramadan than for temperature.
Early February
Nights are cold and afternoons are comfortable. Queues are short and hotels have room. Mornings are the coolest part of the month and the best time for the Pyramids.
Mid February
Readings hold steady and the days lengthen. School half terms in several countries bring a modest rise in visitors in the middle of the month. Book hotels and popular tours early for those dates.
Late February
Afternoons reach the top of the range and can touch 22 or 23°C on good days. Mornings stay cool. The first spring dust can appear on a few days and views can turn hazy. The south gets busy around February 22 when the Abu Simbel Sun Festival draws crowds toward Aswan.
Ramadan and the Weather
In 2027 Ramadan is expected to begin around the second week of February with the start confirmed by moon sighting. Hotels and major sites keep operating. Some local restaurants change their daytime hours and the city comes alive after sunset. The cool evening air suits the late nights.
A few habits help during Ramadan:
- Dress modestly in local areas.
- Avoid eating or drinking on public streets during the day.
- Plan the main sightseeing for the morning and keep the evening for the old city.
- Ask your hotel and guide for exact opening hours on your dates.

Temperature in Cairo in February Against January and March
February is about one degree warmer than January by day and the light lasts longer. Nights are very close. March adds two or three degrees and the first dusty spring winds can appear.
| Question | January | February | March |
| Daytime high | about 19°C | about 20°C | about 23°C |
| Night low | about 9°C | about 10°C | about 12°C |
| Sunset | about 5:10 to 5:35 p.m. | about 5:35 to 5:55 p.m. | about 5:55 to 6:15 p.m. |
| Rain | A few millimetres | A few millimetres | Less than winter |
| Dust | Rare | Occasional late in the month | More frequent |

Rain and Dust and Haze: What the Forecast Skips
Three things sit behind the temperature figure and change how the day looks.
Rain
Cairo is a desert city and rain is rare. February is one of the wetter months by local standards but that still means only a few millimetres. The usual form is a short shower and the roads can become slick and traffic can slow down. A light waterproof layer is enough.
Dust and Haze
City air can hold haze close to the ground on still mornings. It usually eases by midday as the air warms and mixes. Spring dust belongs more to March and April but a few days can show up in late February. On those days distant views soften and the sun turns pale. Visitors with breathing sensitivities should carry their usual medication and plan more time indoors.
Wind
Wind is light to moderate and often from the north. It matters most on the plateau and on the river and on hilltops. A 20°C afternoon with a breeze feels cooler than the number and a windproof layer is more useful than a thick sweater.

Day Trips From Cairo in February Weather
Cairo is a good base for short trips and February is a comfortable month for them.
The pyramid fields south of the city. Sakkara and the Step Pyramid of Djoser and the Dahshur Pyramids and Memphis City can be combined in one long day. The ground is open and there is almost no shade so the cool weather helps. The Mit Rahina Museum is a short indoor stop near Memphis. Start early and carry a hot drink.
Alexandria. The coast is cooler and wetter than Cairo with a stronger wind. Bring a proper coat and a waterproof layer. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is indoors and the Citadel of Qaitbay is best on a clear afternoon. See Alexandria Tours for guided options.
A family outing. The Pharaonic Village is a good outdoor half day on a clear afternoon with boat rides on the water.
An oasis break. Al Fayoum Oasis works as a long day out and the mild weather suits the open ground.
For longer plans look at Egypt Day Tours. If you want to pair the capital with the river see nile cruise and pyramids and 4 day nile cruise from Cairo and 5 day nile cruise from cairo. For a mix of the capital and the coast see Cairo Alexandria and Nile cruise and Cairo Nile cruise and Hurghada. For a longer plan read Egypt itinerary 10 days with Nile cruise.

Cairo in February Compared With Luxor and the Red Sea
Cairo is cooler by day than Luxor and has no sea. The Red Sea has a cool sea and a strong wind while Cairo has calmer air and more culture within a short drive.
| Place | Typical high | Typical low | Main feature |
| Cairo | about 20°C | about 10°C | Pyramids and museums |
| Luxor | about 25°C | about 9°C | Temples and tombs with cold dawns |
| Hurghada | about 23°C | about 13°C | Reef and wind with a cool sea |
| Sharm El Sheikh | about 23°C | about 14°C | Reef and sheltered bays |

What to Wear in Cairo in February
Layers matter more than any single piece:
- Warm jacket or fleece for the morning and the evening.
- Windproof layer for the plateau and the river and hilltops.
- T-shirts and light shirts for the afternoon.
- Long trousers for sightseeing and dinner.
- Scarf for evenings and for mosque visits.
- Hat and sunglasses and sunscreen because the sun is strong at midday.
- Light waterproof layer for the rare wet day.
- Comfortable closed shoes with grip for stone and sand.
- Modest clothing with shoulders and knees covered for mosques and churches.

Prices and Crowds
February sits between the New Year rush and the spring rise. The first week and the last days outside the festival window are usually the best value. Mid-month rates climb during school half terms. Ramadan can change demand patterns and some operators adjust rates so compare dates before you book.

Send a Voice Note
Selim never types his travel plans. He records a short voice note and sends it. It takes thirty seconds and it carries more than a form ever does.
Here is the script. Say these four things:
- Your dates in February and how many days you have in Cairo.
- Your top shot or sight such as the Pyramids at sunrise or the old city at dusk.
- How you handle cold on a scale of one to three where one means you feel every degree.
- Whether you want to add a Nile cruise or a day trip.
Send the note to Bastet Travel on WhatsApp. We will reply with a plan that puts your first shot in the right light and the museum hours in the cold part of the day and the old city lanes where the evening is best.
