Weather in March in Sharm El Sheikh is sunny and warming with a sea near 23°C and a wind that changes the feel of every day. This guide to weather in March in Sharm El Sheikh sorts the month into seven kinds of day and tells you what to do on each.

Weather in March in Sharm El Sheikh 2027: The Concierge Whiteboard

Every morning at seven Hossam writes the day on a whiteboard in the hotel lobby. He does not copy the forecast. He writes what the day will feel like and what to do with it. Guests read the board with their coffee and plan around it.

Hossam is a composite built from how experienced hotel staff think and not a real person. His whiteboard is the spine of this guide. In March the weather in Sharm El Sheikh does not behave like one thing. It behaves like seven kinds of day. Each kind gets a board. Each board says what the day feels like and who it suits and what to do.

For the travel side of the month see our guide to sharm el sheikh in march. For the national picture read egypt temperatures in march. This page stays with the weather.

March Weather in Sharm El Sheikh at a Glance

Measure Typical March value
Daytime high about 25°C
Night low about 16°C
Sea temperature about 22 to 23°C
Wind often 20 to 30 km/h from the north with calmer spells
Rain close to zero
Sunshine about 9 to 10 hours a day
Sunrise about 6:15 a.m. early in the month and 5:55 a.m. late
Sunset about 5:55 p.m. early in the month and 6:15 p.m. late

These are averages and not forecasts. Individual days can run a few degrees either way so check a live forecast before you fly. March is warmer than February by two or three degrees and the sea has started to recover. The hot sun of summer has not arrived. That balance is why many travelers rate Sharm weather in March as the sweet spot of the year.

Board 1: The Calm Sunny Day

Hossam’s board: Clear sky. Light breeze. 26 at noon. Sea like glass. Best day of the week for the water.

The calm sunny day is the one the brochures show. Wind falls below 15 km/h and the sea turns flat and blue and the afternoon climbs toward 26 or 27°C. A sheltered sunbed feels like early summer. Even an open beach is pleasant.

These days arrive in runs of one to three and they are more common in the second half of March than in February. They are the best days for the things that need calm water:

  • A long snorkel on the house reef.
  • A boat trip to Ras Mohammed or Tiran Island with a smooth crossing.
  • A Glass Boat or SeaScope outing with clear views of the reef.
  • A long swim in the pool without a jacket waiting on the chair.

Do not waste a calm day on an indoor plan. If the forecast shows two calm days in a row put the boat trip on the first one in case the wind returns.

Board advice: use it for the water and put sunscreen on early. The sun is strong and the cool breeze hides it.

Board 1: The Calm Sunny Day

Board 2: The Windy Day

Hossam’s board: Northerly 25 to 30. Sunny. Feels like 20. Shelter and layers.

The windy day is the most common kind in March and the one that surprises visitors most. Sharm El Sheikh sits at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula where the north wind that runs down the Red Sea arrives with little to slow it. The forecast can say 25°C and the open terrace can feel like 20°C.

Reading the Wind

A simple rule helps. If the wind is above 25 km/h and you sit out of the sun subtract three to five degrees from the forecast high to get the real feel. If you sit in shelter in full sun add two or three. That is why two guests can describe the same afternoon in opposite ways. One sat behind a wall and wore a t-shirt. The other lay on an open sunbed and asked for a towel.

On a windy day choose these:

  • A walled or terraced pool area and not an open beach.
  • A sunbed behind a wind screen or a building.
  • A windproof layer that folds into a bag.
  • Lunch in the sun in a sheltered courtyard.

Boats on a Windy Day

Boats follow the wind. Operators decide on the day and a strong breeze can change a route or cancel a trip. Mornings are often calmer than afternoons so book the earliest departure. A Speed Boat outing is fun but wet and cold in a breeze. A slower Boat ride with a covered area suits families. Parasailing is less appealing when the wind is up and the sea is still cool.

Keep an indoor plan ready. A Turkish Bath session is a good way to use an afternoon the wind has taken.

Board advice: book the water for the morning and keep the afternoon flexible.

Board 2: The Windy Day

Board 3: The Hazy Dust Day

Hossam’s board: Hazy. Warm. 29 by afternoon. Soft light. Go early and keep the sunglasses on.

March is the first month that can bring spring dust. A hot dry wind from the south and west that Egyptians call the khamsin usually peaks in April and May but the first episodes can appear in March. When one arrives the sky turns pale and the sun looks white and the temperature can jump by several degrees in a day.

What it feels like on the coast:

  • Haze. Distant views soften. The mountains behind the town fade.
  • Heat. An afternoon forecast for 25°C can reach 30°C or a little more.
  • Air. People with breathing sensitivities may feel it and should carry their usual medication.
  • Duration. An episode usually lasts one to three days.

Most visits see few or none of these days. If one appears move outdoor activity to the early morning and use the pool and the shade in the afternoon. Wear sunglasses and keep a scarf or a buff in your bag. Drink water often because dust and heat dry you out.

Desert trips can be affected by reduced visibility and dusty tracks so ask your operator whether the plan changes.

Board advice: do the active things before ten and the lazy things after noon.

Board 3: The Hazy Dust Day

Board 4: The Hot Spike Day

Hossam’s board: Hot for March. 31 at two. Pool day. Shade. Water. No long walks.

A hot spike is the same weather pattern as the dust day with a clear sky. The temperature climbs five to seven degrees above the average and the afternoon feels like early summer. It is rare in the first half of March and a little more likely in the last ten days.

On a hot spike day the sea at 22 or 23°C suddenly feels welcome and a long swim is comfortable for a change. The risk is the sun. UV is strong at midday and sunburn builds fast on open water. Plan around it:

  • Swim and snorkel in the morning when the air is cool.
  • Rest in shade from noon to four.
  • Use a high factor sunscreen and reapply after swimming.
  • Wear a rash vest on long snorkels.
  • Drink water at every break.

A desert trip on a hot spike day is best at dawn or sunset. Heavy midday activity is unwise. A Camel Ride at sunset is pleasant and the ride back is cool.

Board advice: treat the afternoon as a rest period and spend your energy before lunch.

Board 4: The Hot Spike Day

Board 5: The Cool Cloudy Day

Hossam’s board: Cloud. 21. Breezy. Good for the old town and the spa.

The cool cloudy day is the opposite of the hot spike. A passing system brings cloud from the north and the afternoon drops to 20 or 21°C. The sea looks grey and the beach feels empty. This kind of day is more common in early March and it rarely lasts beyond a day.

It is a good day for places that depend on atmosphere and not on sun:

  • Old Market. The narrow streets block the wind and the shops and cafes are warm.
  • SOHO Square. A good evening with shows and restaurants.
  • Naama Bay. The promenade is quieter and the shops are open.
  • A spa session. A Turkish Bath is the classic answer.

Divers still dive on a cool cloudy day. Visibility depends on the surface conditions and not on the sun. Ask your centre about the sea state and expect a colder surface interval.

Board advice: swap the beach for something indoors and go back to the water tomorrow.

Board 5: The Cool Cloudy Day

Board 6: The Eid Day

Hossam’s board: Eid Mubarak. Hotel busy. Beach full. Book dinner early.

Eid al-Fitr is not a weather type but it shapes the day as much as the wind does. In 2027 Eid al-Fitr is expected around March 9 or 10 depending on moon sighting. Egyptian families travel and fill the beaches and the promenades and the hotels. Rooms on the coast are scarce and sunbeds are taken early.

The weather that week is the same as any other early March week. What changes is the crowd and the sound. Music carries along the promenade in the evening and the beach is full by ten in the morning. Banks and many offices close but tourist sites and hotels stay open.

If you are in Sharm for Eid:

  • Book restaurants for the evening and not on the day.
  • Claim a sunbed early or choose a hotel with a quiet pool.
  • Plan boat trips for the day before or the day after the first day.
  • Enjoy the atmosphere. It is one of the liveliest weeks of the year.

Board advice: this is a calendar day and not a weather day. Book early.

Board 6: The Eid Day

Board 7: The Rare Rainy Day

Hossam’s board: Showers possible. Inland roads wet. Desert trips under review.

Rain is close to zero in Sharm El Sheikh in March. A short shower on one day in the month is the most you should expect and many Marches pass with none. A rainy day on the coast is brief and clears fast.

The risk is inland. Heavy rain in the Sinai mountains can send flash floods down dry riverbeds even when the coast stays dry. It is uncommon but real. Responsible operators cancel or reroute when conditions look wrong. Follow their decision without argument.

On a rainy day the coast has plenty to offer indoors. A late breakfast and a long lunch and a spa afternoon is a perfectly good day. If the rain clears by evening the air is clean and clear and the sunset is spectacular.

Board advice: keep one flexible day in a week-long stay and use it when the board says so.

Board 7: The Rare Rainy Day

Water Temperature in Sharm El Sheikh in March

The sea is the number most visitors check twice. In March the water temperature in Sharm El Sheikh sits at about 22 to 23°C. It has passed the coldest point of the year in February and it is slowly recovering. A degree matters more than people expect because water pulls heat from the body far faster than air does.

Swimming

A 22 or 23°C sea feels refreshing in the middle of the day and chilly in the early morning. A short swim is comfortable for most adults. A long one is not. Wind on wet skin makes it feel colder. Swim around midday when the sun is highest and keep a towel and a robe at the water’s edge. A heated pool is the best plan for regular laps and many hotel pools are not heated in March so ask before you book. Browse Swimming for water options.

Diving and Snorkeling

The reef does not follow the calendar. Visibility is often good and the marine park sites are as rich in March as in any other month. Water at 22 or 23°C calls for a slightly thinner wetsuit than in February. Many divers choose a 5 mm suit and add a hood or gloves if they feel the cold. Those are common choices and not rules because cold tolerance varies. Confirm what your dive centre supplies.

The coldest part of a dive day is often the surface interval on a windy deck so bring a warm jacket and a hot drink. Browse Diving for trip types and diving holidays egypt for stays built around the reef. Snorkelers do well with a shorty or a rash vest. Longer trips to wreck sites need calm seas and operators decide on the day.

Sharm El Sheikh Temperature in March Through the Month

The month has a shape. The shape matters for crowds and the calendar as much as for temperature.

Early March and the End of Ramadan

In 2027 Ramadan is expected to end around March 8 or 9. The first week of March sits close to late February in weather with highs near 23 or 24°C and nights near 15°C. Resorts and tourist services keep running as normal. Some local restaurants change daytime hours and evenings come alive after sunset. Dress modestly if you visit the old market and avoid eating or drinking on public streets during the day.

Mid March and Eid

The middle of the month climbs to about 25°C by day. This is the Eid window and the busiest part of the month on the coast for Egyptian visitors. The first dust episodes become possible from this point.

Late March and Western Easter

The last ten days are the warmest with highs near 26 or 27°C and nights near 17°C. Sunset moves close to 6:15 p.m. In 2027 Western Easter falls on March 28 and many European school breaks sit around it. Hotels and flights from Europe cost more in the days before and after. For spring planning read our post on easter break egypt and browse Easter Egypt Tour Packages and egypt easter holiday. For the resort option see easter holiday sharm el sheikh.

Mount Sinai and the Desert in March

The mountains are the other half of Sharm weather. Jabal Mousa and St. Catherine’s Monastery sit high in the southern Sinai mountains. The pickup is long before dawn and the climb starts in the dark. March nights at altitude are cold but usually above freezing especially after the first week. Wind chill still makes it feel colder. Pack a warm layer and a hat and gloves and sturdy shoes. The sunrise is worth the cold.

At lower altitude the desert is at its best before the summer heat. Midday is warm and pleasant for a Quad Bike ride or a Buggy Ride or a Jeep trip or a full Safari. Start early on hot days. The whole range sits under Egypt Desert Safari Tours. For something more remote some itineraries include the Colored Canyon as a long day trip and a short run to the border town of Taba can fill a day.

Plan B First

Most holiday plans are written as one plan with a hope attached. The hope is that the weather will behave. In March in Sharm El Sheikh it behaves most days and then does something else on a few. A good plan has an answer ready for each of Hossam’s seven boards.

So we write the Plan B first.

Here is how it works:

  1. You tell us your dates and your group size and your main reason for the trip.
  2. We build the plan for a calm sunny day.
  3. For every outdoor activity we add a backup for a windy day and a hazy day and a cool cloudy day.
  4. We mark the days that clash with Eid or Western Easter and move the activities that suffer from crowds.

Send your dates to Bastet Travel on WhatsApp and we will reply with a plan that already knows what to do when the board says windy.

Prefer to sketch the days yourself first? Plan Tailor-Made Egypt Trip lets you start from scratch. Prices exclude international flights and our customer service team can help you book those as well.
