Departing after breakfast head towards the Giza Plateau, a UNESCO-World Heritage Site and home to some of Cairo’s most famous treasures. The first stop is at the three iconic Giza pyramids known as Cheops, Chephren, and Myrcerinus. Set on the West Bank of the River Nile these age-old pyramids are the sole survivors from the Great Wonders of the Ancient World and are one of the planet’s oldest tourist attractions. Originally built as royal tombs during Egypt’s Old and Middle Kingdom Periods, they are riddled with a maze of passageways designed to protect the Mummies of the Pharaohs and the treasures which they would take with them to the afterlife. There will also be an opportunity to snap a few photos with the world-famous Sphinx, an impressive 50-meter tall statue with the body of a feline and the head of a human carved out of a single piece of rock.
Later move on to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, which boasts an impressive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Here you will discover an entire gallery dedicated to Tutankhamen and the treasures unearthed in his tomb in 1922, including the world-renowned blue and gold mask in which he was laid to rest. For an extra fee, you can also check out the eerie Royal Mummy Room, where nine mummified bodies from the New Kingdom can be seen on display. Then, transfer to Cairo airport to fly to Aswan. Upon arrival in Aswan, you will spend the night in a 5 stars hotel in Aswan.

The two Temples of Abu Simbel, with their unique style, are considered to be the masterpieces of ancient Egypt as they reflect the glory and grandeur of the new Kingdom. The Egyptian government and UNESCO decided to co-operate in order to save these temples from the flood. The Temple of Ramses II was dedicated to the four universal gods Ptah, Re-Her-Akhtey, Amun-Re, and to Ramesses II himself. The great Abu Simbel temple is also called The Sun Temple of Ramses II. The Temple of Queen Nefertari is also Called the Temple of Hathor who was the wife of the Sun God so in a symbolic way, the two Temples, that of Ramesses II and that of Nefertari, bring Ramesses II, Nefertari, Hathor, and the Sun God together as one.
Ramses II originally cut the two temples into the side of a mountain, now domed by an artificial mountain to resemble the original site. The Great Temple was constructed, so that the rising sun shone between the 4 statues of Ramses and into the inner recesses of the sanctuary on both February 22nd and October 22nd. Modern engineers spent a full year calculating the new placement of the temple to reproduce this miracle. Today, on those dates each year, the sun rays illuminate the holy statues for 20 minutes.
The massive job took four years to be completed, between 1964-1968. Abu Simbel Tours remains one of Egypt’s top tourist attractions after the pyramids of Giza. After finished, transfer back to Aswan airport to fly back to Cairo, then to Cairo hotel.
